The New York Yankees season hasn’t even started yet and they’re already dealing with major injury concerns. Ace pitcher Gerrit Cole is out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery while heavy hitter Giancarlo Stanton is battling serious elbow issues that could keep him off the diamond for an extended period.

Cole’s injury is a MASSIVE blow. As the reigning Cy Young winner, he was expected to anchor the Yankee’s rotation again for the upcoming year. Now this team will have to rely heavily on guys like Carlos Rodón, Clarke Schmidt & Nestor Cortez to step it up. While their rotation definitely has some talent, losing your best player is never something easy to fix. Will the Yankees look to explore some trade options or can their younger arms step up to the plate?

Heavy Hitting loss

On the offensive side of things, Stanton's elbow troubles raise a major concern. He’s already received multiple PRP injections to try and avoid surgery, but there is still no clear timeline for his return. If he misses significant time, the yankees lose a major power bat in their line up. With Stanton out for a long period this puts even more pressure on heavy hitters like Aaron Judge and Juan Soto to carry this offense and find success.

Wrap up

Between these injuries and other depth concerns, the Yankees’ season is off to a rough start. The AL East is always highly competitive and losing two key pieces to the puzzle before opening day makes things even tougher. If the Yankees want to stay in the hunt, they will need their remaining stars to perform at an elite level.
